Hurricane Idalia Approaches: Essential Steps to Safeguard Your Boat

Get Ready: Hurricane Idalia is Coming

Hurricane Idalia is no joke. It's expected to hit the upper west coast of Florida and the southeastern portion of the East Coast with major force. While it may not be the storm of the century, it's still important to stay safe and take precautions.

The experts at the National Hurricane Center are telling us that we've been too relaxed about hurricanes in this region. Idalia is our wake-up call.

So, let's use this opportunity to prepare for the day when the really big one hits. If you own a boat, this is especially important.

If you have space at a local storage facility, use it. If you can move your boat to higher ground, do it. If you have to leave it in the water, make sure the batteries are working and the tie-up lines can handle the rising waters. Double-check your insurance to make sure you're covered.

Idalia may not be the worst-case scenario, but it's a chance for us to practice. You know what to do at home, but your boat is an investment that requires extra care.

Remember, a slight shift in the storm's path could make conditions even worse in our area. So don't take any risks. Stay safe, take care of your loved ones, and make sure your boat is ready to weather the storm.
